Youth Cricket in Belgium
Junior Internationals
The first junior international team to represent Belgium was the national Under 15 squad that travelled to Berlin to play in the European Under 15 Second Division Championships in August 2001. Belgium notched up a creditable 6th place in the eight-country event.
Since then Belgian national youth teams have been turning in better and better performances at ICC-Europe level, winning several age-group tournaments and culminating in 2009 with the U19s winning the ICC-Europe Division 2 championships.
In 2010 the country's Under-17s will play in the ICC-Europe tournament n the Isle of Man in July. Other representative teams will play in the Dutch U13 and U15 League.
Junior Leagues
The BCF runs three junior league competitions – Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 – and also has a development squad which plays in the Fourth Division of the senior league. All junior league matches take place on Saturday or Sunday mornings and have trophies for the side that wins the particular league. The Under 17s will play in the senior Division Four League as preparation for the ICC-Europe tournament and will also play matches against a Dutch selection and Denmark in the lead-up to the championships.
