Belgium Marches on in the ICC U17 2nd Division Championships

Belgium has maintained their unbeaten record in the ICC U17 division 2 championships in Germany. They have now won all three of there group games and lead the group. With only one more to play they are clear favourites to win Group B and play the final on Friday 15/8/2008. Follow their progress

A GREAT FRIEND OF BELGIAN CRICKET
It is with great sadness to hear that John Bray passed away recently. He was one of the friendliest and most charming people one could hope to meet. He recently had a 2nd hip replacement and was well on the way to a full recovery. This has come as a shock to me and to all who knew him.

Cricket Coaching Course - Level 1

The Belgian skies brightened up for 12 keen delegates attending the first day of a 2 day course on teaching cricket. The course is being held in conjunction with the British School of Brussels and saw recruits from the National Team,
cricket clubs and those involved in junior cricket. The clubs represented were Royal Brussels CC, Antwerp CC, Mechelen CC, Gent Arcadians as well as Parents from the British School.

M.C.C 2007 Tour to Belgium

)
The London-based Marylebone Cricket Club, known around the world simply as MCC, will be touring Belgium in late June 2007. The club will play a series of matches against Belgian teams and conduct a coaching clinic for youngsters and new-comers to the game.
The touring party will be received by the Mayor of Ghent at the Ghent Town Hall on Saturday 23 June before playing their first match against a Cricket Vlaanderen XI at the Claeys Brouüaert Ground in Mariakerke, Ghent. MCC will play three other matches during their tour, including a 50 over clash against a full representative Belgium on Sunday 24 June in Mechelen, a Twenty20 match against a BCF Chairman’s XI on Wednesday 27 June in Rumst and a final match against Belgium U19s on Thursday 28 June in Ohain. Annual Kentish Gazette Indoor tournament

The annual Kentish Gazette Indoor tournament will take place at Kattenbroek Sports Centre in Edegem on Saturday 27th January from 10.00-19.15hrs. A young Belgium side will play against a French team, Canterbury and a "European Grand Masters" team. All supporters are most welcome.

At the grass roots level, cricket is getting a welcome boost thanks to the splendid work of BCF National coach, Fazil Mahmoud. Journeying from his new found home in Mechelen, Fazil is fast making his way round schools across Flanders to spread the gospel of cricket amongst the Flemish schoolchildren.

Ted Vorzanger, BCF Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the League, has given notice that for personal reasons he will retire from the BCF at the coming AGM. His experience and counsel will be sorely missed and impossible to replace.

The BCF Committee have great pleasure in announcing the appointment of Fazil Mahmoud as Head Coach. The full-time appointment runs till the end of March but it is hoped that the contract will be extended for a further two years.

Ossie Van Moor Memorial Match Report

An Ossie Van Moor memorial match between Mechelen CC and a BCF Chairman's XI took place on Sunday 10th September in Hombeek. Ossie was a most popular figure in Belgian cricket and so many people turned out to show their love and affection for the great man.

On Sunday 10 September, Mechelen CC will play a Cricket Belgium Invitational XI at Hombeek in remembrance of former Mechelen CC Chairman and BCF President, Oswald 'Ossie' Van Moer. To mark the occasion, the BCF will also present a willow tree and a commemorative brass plaque to Mechelen Cricket Club. The day will conclude with a buffet dinner. All welcome.

Antwerp Indians are now officially crowned as league champions for 2006, congratulations! After beating Ostend CC on the 16th of July, they are mathematically certain to end at the top of the BCF 1st Division league.

Over recent years, it has been BCF policy to blood junior players in the Indoor squad. Although Belgium lost their two matches against France and a Kent team, the experience for the youngsters was immeasurable. In the squad of eight players, four of them are 15 years old.

For the second time in less than 12 months a natural disaster has wreaked massive devastation in cricketing countries, this time an earthquake has affected mainly Pakistan and a part of India. By today the toll in Pakistan alone had reached 33,000 dead and torrential rains were bringing rescue and assistance to a halt. Cricket Belgium would like to make a contribution to the aid effort in whatever way it can. For this reason, we will be holding an outdoor Sixes competition at Rumst, this coming Sunday, October 16. Once again all the results and league tables are up to date. The 1st division will be decided in the final game, on the 28th August when RBCC play Ostend. A no result will see RBCC champions, as will a win or a loss, if they get 29 points. Crescent look as if they will win the 2nd division and be promoted. And in the reserve division Arcadians already ended on top some weeks ago.

ICC Delegates Complete Inspection Tour

His Royal Highness Tunku Imran of Malaysia, Chairman of the Board of ICC Associates, and Matthew Kennedy, ICC Global Development Manager, left Antwerp the morning of April 25 after a two-and-a half-day inspection tour of Belgian cricket. The visit followed Belgium’s application to become an Associate country together with five other nations - Japan, Thailand, Botswana, Kuwait and Belize – and attracted significant media attention from the press, television and radio.

ICC Introduction to Cricket Course

On Sunday 24th April the BCF is organising an "ICC Introduction to Cricket Course" at the British School Brussels in Tervuren from 09.00-18.00hrs. The course consists of a basic education in playing/coaching, umpiring and scoring. The course will be led by Roland Lefebvre, ex Holland captain, with two other senior Dutch coaches. Join us for Belgium’s Centennial International!

On August 27, 1905, Belgium played its first international against the Netherlands. On Saturday, August 27, this year both countries will be celebrating the 100-year anniversary with a Centennial gala match for their national Over-40 teams. The match will be played from 1 pm at Antwerp CC’s ground at Rumst and will be followed by post-match celebrations.
