H/umps in Israel
In a second visit to Israel recently, EDP Umpire Instructor Ken Amos led several umpire education courses. The first seminar was well supported by twenty umpires who had been well trained by Sammy Bamnolker and Eli Jacob in their course prior to Ken's visit. Using the Powerpoint presentation proved to be very successful and adding demonstrations to the seminars gave another dimension for the non-English speaking students. The second seminar on the Monday was equally successful, with question and answers being the most popular and enjoyable way to see if the student umpires had understood the course content. They know what to do when it rains or bad light stops play. But the question to Ken was, "what should happen when camels stop play?" Ken's answer was "award five penalty runs to both h/umps and signal it by giving the h/umps a pat on the back!!" Joking aside, the questions answered in the oral and visual exams were full and in most cases accurate answers. So well done to all umpires and thanks for making Ken's visit so worthwhile. |
