Ole "Stan" Mortensen was in Vienna over the weekend (4-5 June) for a reconnaissance and coaching visit, which had originally come about following the ICC Introduction to Cricket Course and Coaching Forum in Lords last November. Even the slightly temperamental weather was unable to dampen spirits, with Stan conducting sessions with younger players from Austria CC Wien and Lords CC, as well as the ACA's Development squad - drawn from Austrian-qualified players from various Open League clubs to give them an insight into the more high performance side of cricket, away from the environs of their own clubs.

On the Saturday, there were two training sessions, with one for youth players and the other for the development squad - sadly the latter was curtailed by a torrential rainstorm, but nevertheless the group had enjoyed a very productive session and it was clear that Stan's complete motivation had rubbed off on those in attendance and they have doubtless all profited from the session. In the evening the Sri Lankan Cricket Club's Summer Nights party allowed Stan a chance to enjoy some very spicy Sri Lankan cuisine.

On the Sunday, there was another extended practice session, with some of those attending playing in the subsequent Austria CC Youth match against Lords Cricket Club's development team - with some more experienced players helping to make up the numbers - although there are encouraging signs that Lords CC will soon have a very strong young team. Stan was able to see the start of the game, and it was clear to see that some of his imparted wisdom had already being taken on board and was being put into practice. It was also pleasing to see some of the more senior players volunteering to umpire and supervise the game - and it is hopefully a very encouraging sign for the future.
