Island Select XI beats Southern African Society by 3 wickets
Gareth Morris with 35 and Cionnor Byrne with 20 not out saw the Island Select home to a narrow 3 wicket victory over the Manx Sothern African Society at Tromode on Sunday.
Jaco Jansen had earlier won the toss and elected to bat in the 40 over-a-side match. The Society went on to make 128 all out with Jansen making 18 and Cristo Roelofse 33. Webster claimed the prize scalp of Dale Killa for just 7. Arne van der Berg made 17 but good bowling from Ollie Webster with 3 for 41 and Conor Byrne with 3 for 35 restricted the Society and Christian Steriopulos cleaned up the tail with 3 for 10.
In reply the Island side struggled somewhat as Juan Corlett made 11 and Steriopulos 12 after Jansen and Van Der Berg had bowled well, but a sparkling effort of 35 from Morris in the middle order put the Island side back in the game. When Ollie Webster was well caught by Roelofse on the long on boundary off Louis Yssell for 19 and Duncan Miller was also a victim for Yssell the Island were on 100 for 7. However, Adam Peel joined Conor Byrne and Conor took control to see his side home by 3 wickets, making 20 not out while Adam was 4 not out.
His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor presented the trophy to a delighted skipper Rob Webber after the game in front of a large crowd and in glorious weather. Many thanks to the Manx Southern African Society for staging what was an excellent game yet again.
