PGCC BREAK THEIR DUCK.
PGCC, newcomers to Senior cricket this season, chalked up their first victory on Saturday, defeating UKCCC by 78 runs. Highlights of the match were an innings of 98 by Nitin Jain for PGCC, a five wicket haul for Chris Perkins of UKCCC, four wickets for young Joss Hatcher, and a defiant 64 from UKCCC skipper Chris Watkins.
UKCCC rue missed catches.
PGCC batted first and were given an excellent start by Jain and Srikanth Krishnaswamy. These two put on 139 runs for the first wicket in the opening twenty overs. UKCCC were partly to blame for this as several catches went down, including one off Jain before he had scored. Krishnaswamy became Perkins’ first victim when on 39 and two further wickets fell for the addition of just 14 runs. Meanwhile Jain had got to within two runs of his century when Perkins struck again, having him caught by Will Gilbert. PGCC’s late order struck some useful blows to enable the side to reach a total of 254 all out in 39.1 overs. For UKCCC Perkins returned figures of 5/38 and Joss Hatcher 4/38.
UKCCC made a disastrous start to their reply, losing the wickets of Gilbert and Kean Olivero with only 16 runs on the board. Nick Taylor kept Watkins company whilst a further 35 runs accrued but when he fell to Michael Jacobsen and Anupam Sinha accounted for Dave Jacobs, UKCCC were in some trouble on 67/4. Steve Martin then joined Watkins and these two put on 43 runs for the fifth wicket, but then Subu struck a vital blow for his side, bowling Watkins. Martin remained undefeated on 36 but the last UKCCC five batsmen went for single figures as the side was bundled out for 176 in 30 overs. Subu took 3/19 for PGCC and there were two wickets apiece for Aldrin D’Silva, Jacobsen and Sinha. PGCC went home with twenty points to UKCCC’s eight.
