Isle of Man to face Greece in first ever International game
The Isle of Man is set to play it's first ever International cricket match in Mechelen, Belgium on 14th August 2005 when the Island side led by Rob Webber takes on European Indoor Champions Greece in Group C. The Isle of Man then take on Portugal the following day at the Royal Brussels Cricket Ground. The top two teams from the group will go into a Super Six series whilst the third placed teams will play off against each other for positions 7-9.
The Island squad has a mixture of youth and experience with the experience coming from skipper Rob Webber, Keith Brew, Graeme Garrett, Neil Holmes and Player/Coach Christian Steriopulos. The youth is provided by Adam Peel, Juan Corlett, Duncan Miller, James Aitchison and Graham Webb. Added to these are the all-round talents of Peter Richards, Conor Byrne, Ollie Webster and the in-form Gareth Morris.
This is unknown territory for the team but they will go into the turnament confident that they have a good team spirit and determined to enjoy the experience win or lose.
Originally the team were due to play their first game against Malta, followed by games against Spain, Portugal and Switzerland, but following the late withdrawal of Switzerland the tournament was re-scheduled. The full line-up is Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Croatia, Isle of Man, Finland, Greece, Malta.
