Lloyds TSB Junior Cricket initiative once again a success

Another successful season for the IOMCA Lloyds TSB U11 League
The IOMCA Lloyds TSB U11 league reached the end of its second season last Friday (22nd July), after another superb season full of excitement for players and supporters alike. Cronkbourne A took the title closely followed by Ramsey A and Castletown A. The players of the 8 teams were coached at regular club practices, Manx Youth Games sessions and as a part of the Lloyds TSB Cricket Roadshow. The league was again run on a Friday evening, this time with 2 matches a night, and again attracted good crowds. The success of the league is another indication of the growing strength of Manx cricket at grass roots level.
The efficient Cronkbourne A bowling, allied with sharp fielding, held the key to their success, along with a good all-round team effort. The Tromode side ended the season with an unbeaten and 100% record. Other teams also give us some exciting moments. For Ramsey A there was the powerful hitting of Sean Kelly, whilst Robert Hester was Castletown A’s main strokeplayer, and Richard Jackson’s left arm medium pace bowling also caused problems for the league’s batsmen. Another player to catch the eye was Finch Hill’s Stuart Pacey, the Finch Hill skipper who led the way for his side with plenty of runs and wickets.
This year also saw 3 B teams in the league, with Castletown B the pick finishing 5th, after recording victories against Cronkbourne B, Ramsey B and Finch Hill A. With many of the players who took part in this year’s competition still U11 next year, and with more teams due to enter next season, the future is very bright at the grassroots level of Manx Cricket.
Many thanks to Lloyds TSB for their generous sponsorship which once again made it all possible.
