Ossie laid to rest...
webmaster
Ossie Van Moer, late President of the Belgian Cricket Federation, was laid to rest Saturday after a funeral packed with his cricketing, rugby and hockey friends, but most especially by members past and present of his own Mechelen Cricket Club.
The service at the Parish Church of the Holy Heart in Mechelen made numerous references to his love of cricket.
Dr Pierre Vander Borcht, an orthopaedic surgeon and close friend, gave the first address, while Dirk Francis, a special friend from the club who now lives in Ireland, delivered a tribute to Ossie which ended with a personal poem. Shikkoh Malik, the club captain, read Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my Shepherd”.
As Ossie’s coffin left the church, Mechelen CC members formed a guard of honour with raised bats in a final tribute to the man who had touched so many lives in such a splendid way.
