Manx Coaches @ the ECC and ECBCA Coaching Conference

The Isle of Man was represented at the ECC and ECBCA coaching conference which took place recently at Warwick University. The first part of the 3 day conference was a 1 day seminar for around 20 coaches from the various ECC countries, with the likes of Holland, Ireland and Scotland represented. There were several presentations from the cream of European cricket coaching, and several coaches in attendance will be taking sides to the U19 World Cup this year and full World Cup in 2007. Christian Steriopulos was the Island’s representative, and the content was of great use for his role in developing junior players in the Isle of Man and working as part of the senior Island squad.

Days 2 & 3 took up the main body of the conference  organised by the ECBCA, and guest speakers included Nasser Hussain (ex-England captain), Matthew Maynard (England batting coach), Terry Jenner, Nick Knight, David Graveney (England Chairman of Selectors) and Peter Moores (ECB Academy Director). This all-star cast was of great use to the Manx delegates Christian & Oliver Steriopulos, as they joined coaches from county cricket boards across the UK and Europe in soaking up the information passed on. With these kind of conferences becoming more accessible for Isle of Man based coaches and players, it bodes well for the future of cricket on an international level for many years to come.
