Island Squad to tour to La Manga in Spain
Colin Jones
With the absence of a European Championship to compete in this year the Island Senior Squad will now be going to La Manga in Spain to play 3 matches against the Spanish National Team and a Costa Blanca XI. Rob Webber will take the squad to La Manga from 29th September to 4th October where they will play 3 matches in 4 days. It is essential that there is some continuity this year without a tournament to play. Having played their first International tournament last August in Belgium at the ECC Notts Sports Division 2 Affiliates Championships it is essential that the team continues to play teams at national level in preparation for the newly formed Affiliates Division 3 championships in 2007. The La Manga complex is renowned for it's sporting facilities featuring football pitches, tennis courts, golf courses and two cricket pitches all on site and is regularly used by Premiership sides and Interbnational teams. The ECC is holding events there in 2006 including the European Academy in April in which Island batsman Dale Killa wil take part.
