Ramsey to raise funds for pavilion

A great new project is set for Ramsey.

Fifty years ago the Cricket Club was formed and started playing at the Grammar School. To celebrate the anniversary, they are hoping to erect a new pavilion on the ground.

It will be known as the Mark Webber Pavilion in memory of the Ramsey member who tragically died last August. He had played for the club for many years and was also a keen junior coach.

When it was decided that Ramsey had to enhance its facilities, Mark, with his own funds, acquired the rights to a new pavilion. Approximately £25,000 is now needed to make this “shell” into an operational clubhouse with changing rooms, showers and food-making facilities.

A Fund Raising Committee has been formed and they have planned many top events. These include a Texas Scramble Golf Competition, a week-long six-a-side competition and a Sportsmen’s Dinner.

There will also be a “Century Club”, a match between current and former players and sponsorship is being sought for members in the Parish Walk. For further details the man to contact is secretary Nigel Boyde on 812810.

Permission has been granted from the Department of Education for the pavilion to be located adjacent to the cricket pitch at Ramsey Grammar School. When completed it should give the club a big boost and will be a fitting tribute to Mark.
