ICC support for Women's cricket in Jersey
The ICC has provided a grant to support the women's project in the Island.
The opportunities for women to play cricket in Jersey are increasing and the reality of a ladies team being formed comes ever closer following the successful introduction of winter training sessions.
Becky Silva and Gemma Dunning, the only ladies cricket coaches in the Island were asked, by the new director of cricket Chris Minty whether they would be interested in setting up coaching sessions after he had been asked to set up a women's side.
Up to 20 ladies attending sessions until the end of September. Because it had been so successful it was decided to offer indoor winter sessions. The prospective players have been offered ladies membership of the JICC so they could have a base to operate from.
Targets are being set and it is hopeful that opportunities to play will increase. Outdoor net sessions will continue and attempts will be made to organise friendlies with the Guernsey ladies team, the Sirens, so experience can be gained in real matches.
