Crosby oust valiant Millers in the Tinker Cup
IOMCA
Tinker Cup ( sponsored by Collins Stewart ) Preliminary Round
Batting first Union Mills were soon in trouble at Crosby as they slumped to 39 for 5 and with John Palmer not available things didn't look good. Mike Walker took 4 wickets as the Millers batsmen struggled while David Quayle's superb openng spell desrved more than the 1 wicket he picked up.
However, while wickets tumbled Richard Taylor stood firm then began to take control hitting 3 big sixes in a great innings of 67 and he received excellent support from Peter Callin who made a very useful 28. The Millers innings finally ended on 135, a great recovery.
Simon Watson and Andrew Turner opened the innings for Crosby and added 92 before Andrew went for just 21 after Mills had given him a number of lives with dropped catches. The Union Mills bowlers never gave up and took the wickets of both Ricky Kniveton and Gareth Rowland before Ed Clague produced a beauty to remove Simon Watson. I doubt anyone other than Simon would have been good enough to get an edge to it following another flawless innings of 68. Crosby then picked off the remaining runs for a 6 wicket victory though they were pushed to the 33rd over by good bowling from Freddie Nel, Peter Callin, Ian Shanahan and Eddie Clague.
Union MIlls 135 ( Richard Taylor 67, Peter Callin 28, Mike Walker 4-35, Dave Picken 2-32, Dave Quayle 1-23 )
Crosby 141 for 4 ( Simon Watson 68, Andrew Turner 21 )
Crosby won by 6 wickets.
