St John's retain Tinker Cup in hard fought game at Tromode

IOMCA

Tinker Cup Final

St John's won the toss and elected to put Cronkbourne in on a greenish wicket at Tromode and it soon became apparent that runs would be hard to come by. After 20 overs Cronkbourne were 42 for 3 with Greg Hawke having removed Max Stokoe and Steve Clague whilst Ewald Kilian got the wicket of Peter Richards. Scott Pearce bowled his 8 overs and took 1 for 7 as the Tromode side struggled. Only Conor Byrne (20) and Graeme Garrett (21) could post any sort of score as Cronkbourne stuttered to 123 for 9. Cristo Roelofse wreaked havoc with the lower order returning 3 for 18.

In reply Saints soon lost Grant Atchison and Nic Hawke but apartnership of 67 between Ewald Kilian (47) and Jon Norrington saw them to 93 for 2 and looking comfortable until Graeme Garrett joined the attack and took an amazing 4 wickets for 2 runs with his first 19 balls removing Kilian , Norrington, Greg Hawke and John Slevin to reduce Saints to 100 for 6. At this point Mark Cooper came in to join Scott Pearce and took control smashing his first ball through the covers for 4 and when he hit an enormous 6 off Garrett over the scoreboard St John's were all but home and dry.

Ewald Kilian was named man of the match at the presentation.
