Ravenscroft heroics not enough as Norfolk win U14 Festival

David Piesing

DAY 5 RESULTS (further details to follow)

Norfolk won the Festival with a 25-run victory over the Channel Islands side, who missed a golden opportunity to win the fnal deciding match. Chasing 223 to win in 40 overs, the home side needed just over 100 to win off the last 20 overs with 8 wickets in hand, but a middle-order collapse, watched by star batsman Tim Ravenscroft from the other end, saw them bowled out for 197 with 3 balls remaining. Ravenscroft scored his third century in 10 days before being one of the last men dismissed in a valiant attempt to win the match, but he didn't receive enough support from his team-mates when it mattered under pressure.

Despite scoring more than 350 runs for just three dismissals from his 5 innings during the week, remarkably Ravenscroft was not the leading batsman of the week. That honour went to Norfolk's Sam Arturton, who scored 30 runs more. The CI's slow left-armer, Max Ellis, was the leading wicket-taker of the week.
