GCA XI IN MOROCCO

As part of their preparations for the forthcoming European Championships in Glasgow, a party of local cricketers travelled to Tangier to play a Morocco Cricket Federation XI and to get used to playing on a grass surface. As things turned out, the opposition proved to be rather weak but the Gibraltar players nevertheless had an opportunity to get in some much-needed practice.

Batting first, Christian Rocca and David Young gave the GCA XI an excellent start with a stand of 86 in the opening fifteen overs. Rocca was the first to go, bowled for 33, and Young retired on 47, but there was to be no respite for the Moroccan bowlers as Mark Bacarese (24), Karan Aswani (52) and Steven Gonzalez (26) took advantage of some mediocre bowling to boost GCA’s final total to 269/7 at the end of the allotted 45 overs.

The locals made a terrible start, losing their first three wickets with only seventeen runs on the board and despite a fourth wicket stand of 48 never recovered and were eventually dismissed for 140 in 25 overs. Kabir Mirpuri took 3/32, Gonzalez 2/12 and Bacarese 2/15.

Week-end fixtures.

There are two Senior League matches scheduled for this week-end. On Saturday, GCC take on Grammarians/UK in a second round match (40 overs), whilst the Sunday fixture is a first round match (50 overs) between league pace setters Calpe CC and Combined Colleges from the Costa.
