CI Under-15s win Taunton Festival

David Piesing

DAY 5

After yesterday's hiccup against Cambridgeshire, the CI Under-15s bounced back with a 6-wicket victory over a Devon side which included three West of England players. The win, together with Cambridegshire's last-day defeat by Worcestershire, meant that the CI team won the week-long Festival title.

Devon batted first and were all out for 224. Matthew Hickey top-scored with 73 for Devon, while William Gater made 45. Seamer Will Peatfield was the star performer with the ball for the CI team with 5 for 36 from his 9 overs. Tim Ravenscroft also bowled well to take 2 for 33 from his 9 overs.

In reply, the CI lost just 4 wickets and won with an over to spare. Tim Ravenscroft capped a very consistent week with the bat with an unbeaten 73 to lead the team home. Edward Kean made 51 while Tim de la Haye (33) and John Borg (28) also chipped in with very useful runs.

Guernsey coach Jason Shambrook said: "The CI fully deserved to win the Festival. We played good, positive, attacking cricket all week and proved that we can compete very well with any side at this level. Apart from a crazy period of batting against Cambridgeshire on Day 4, we got things right all week long."

DAY 4

The Under-15s were cruising at 191 for 5 with 12 overs remaining against Cambridgeshire but a dramatic collapse saw them lose their last 5 wickets for just 5 runs. Cambridgeshire then knocked off the runs for the loss of just one wicket, leaving the CI needing to beat Devon on the last day and hoping for other results to go their way if they are to top the final Festival table.

Guernsey's Tim Ravenscroft made 68 and Jonny Clark scored 45 for the CI.

DAY 3

The CI maintained their 100% record in a 6-wicket victory over Dorset.

Dorset made 184 for 9 with the Guernsey spin pair of Jonny Clark (10-5-17-3) and Ben McVey (10-1-37-2) doing the damage. In reply, the CI made 186 for 4 with David Hooper top-scoring with 62. Clark made it a good all-round day by making 40 and Tim Ravenscroft saw his side home with 30 not out.

DAY 2

The CI beat Shropshire by 2 wickets in their second match.

Shropshire were all for 193 with Tim Ravenscroft taking 4 for 27. In reply the CI made 197 for 8, with Jersey pair Sam de la Haye (41 not out) and Peter Miller (25) being well supported by 33 from Guernsey's Jonny Clark.

DAY 1

The CI batted first and made 193 all out, with Guernsey's U-14 star batsman Tim Ravenscroft making 66. and Jersey's Edward Kean making 33. In reply, Worcestershire were all out for 172 with Jersey's Tim de la Haye taking a remarkable 3 wickets for 0 runs in 2 overs of off-spin after Guernsey seamer William Peatfield had taken 3 for 35 from 9 overs.
