Denmark beat Italy in reduced match

Denmark's Carsten Pedersen doubled his collection of beer cans as he collected the Man of the Match award for the second time in the tournament as his 59 runs laid the foundation for Denmark's score of 208 in a rain reduced match of 39 overs per side.
Captain Fredeick Klokker took a brave decision when he won the toss and decided to bat, as the pitch looked green and favoured the bowlers with the ball seaming around. But this was an important match for Denmark and the Danes seem to win their matches batting first. So that might have been the reason. The Danes started well enough but Frederick Klokker got a ball that left him and he gave a catch to gully with the score at 27. Then Michael Pedersen was joined by his brother Carsten and they controlled the play as they put on 82 for the second wicket. Michael was out as he skied a an attempted pull. When Carsten Pedersen was out at 144 mistiming a full toss the Danish middle order lost their patience even though there was 9 overs left and went for their shots. This gave a little flurry of wickets to the Italiens and it was not until Chawla and Shah got together that they pushed the score along in the final overs to 208.

Italy were soon in trouble as the captain Bonera gave a return catch without scoring to Thomas Hansen whose swing bowling gave the Italiens problems as Jayasena was caught in the slips. Later Thomas Hansen took the important wicket of Scuderi ajudged lbw as Italy struggled at 33 for 3. But Ketipe and Puccio stuck together and were going well against the Dansih first change bowlers, until Puccio was caught stranded, as he was neatly stumped down the leg side by Frederick Klokker off the inswingers of Zaman. Ketipe followed soon after as he skyed Zaman to mid off. Northcote and Corbellari got another partnership going as the Danes changed to spin. As they had put on 50 for the sixth wicket the Danes were getting nervous. Then luck perhaps helped as Northcote ran himself out quickly followed by Corbellari holing out to deep square leg. Although Alaud hit a six and a four in consecutive balls he was trapped by Chawla's topspinner and then the Italiens broke down soon after.
