France and Guernsey to play off for fifth
Newcomers Guernsey will play France on Wednesday for fifth place in the tournament after comfortably winning their consolation semi-final against Israel at RAF Lossiemouth. France’s game against Hellas was abandoned due to rain, but they will contest tomorrow’s play-off. Stars of Guernsey’s win were seamers Pierre Moody, with five for 23 off eight overs and Ami Banerjee, who did the hat-trick to reduce Israel from 61 for two to 61 for five, and opener Matt Oliver, whose 71 not out off 71 balls enabled his side to reach their target of 129 in just 27.2 overs. For Israel, bowled out for 128 in 47 overs, the top-scorer was Eshkol Solomon with 32, but final pair Yaniv Razpurker and Isaac Talkar again held proceedings up with a 37-run partnership which saw their side past the 100. In Lossiemouth, France made 210 in 48.3 overs against a depleted Greek attack, with Khalid Abdul contributing 39 in 32 balls after coming in at 132 for six. Javed Ijaz had earlier made a patient 32, while Andreas Koutsoufis was the most successful of the Greek bowlers with three for 31. Hellas lost two quick wickets when they began their chase, but the rain then descended and the match was abandoned with the side on 46 for two. |
