CI Under-13s win Shrewsbury Festival
David Piesing
The Channel Islands Under-13s clinched the Shrewsbury Under-12s Festival title with a thrilling 1-wicket win against Warwickshire. Chasing 146 for victory, the islanders struggled towards their target despite 34 from Guernsey's Adam Clark. With the scores level, Tom Still pushed the winning single into the covers with just 3 balls to spare. Earlier, Guernsey seamer Matthew Renouf produced the impressive figures of 3 for 7 from 6 overs.
Earlier in the week, the islanders had a losing draw in a rain-affected match v Dorset, but they bounced back to beat Berkshire by 99 runs. The CI made 217 for 5 from their 45 overs (Adrian Maguire 73, Andrew Clark 67) and bowled out Berkshire for 118, with Jersey's Charlie Fricker taking 5 for 19.
Against Staffordshire, the CI earned a winning draw after making 244 for 7 (Adrian Maguire 56, Danny Kearns 55).
In the past fortnight the CI have also won the Under-15 Festival at Taunton while the Under-14s finished runners-up in the Guernsey Festival.
