3 Jersey teams make CI Club Championship semi-finals

Jersey will have three of the four semi-finalists in the 2006 KPMG CI Club Championships after the last round of group games on Saturday.

Sporting Club Francais (Jersey) won Group A when they thrashed Guernsey's Total Cobo by 144 runs at KGV. Cobo never seemed to get themselves up for this game, with both teams already having secured their places in the semi-finals before the match. SCF batted first and made 231 all out in 44.3 overs, with opener Steve Carlyon top-scoring with 82. Matt Hague (34) and Bradley Vowden (33) also chipped in. Skipper Stuart Le Prevost was Guernsey's most-effective bowler with his off-breaks earning him figures of 3 for 21. In reply, Cobo were skittled for 87 in 37.1 overs, with Gary Rich (30) making the only score of note. Seamer Justin Le Fort took 3 for 29 and Tony Carlyon was miserly in returning figures of 2 for 5 from his 9 overs.

In the other group game, Guernsey's C&W Rovers received a walkover against Jersey's St Ouen who were disappointly unable to field a side.

In Group B, where everything was wide open before the game, Jersey's Old Victorians beat Guernsey's Randly Paddle Mavericks by 54 runs at FB Fields. OVs were bowled out for 209 in exactly 45 overs, with Phil Le Cornu top-scoring with 48. Peter Gough and Tom Minty both made 34. For Mavericks, Vince Kenny took 4 for 37 and Martin Baxter took 3 for 32, but Justin Meades was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 19 from 9 overs. Mavericks were bowled out for 155 in 38 overs in reply, Meades top-scoring with 49 and Baxter made 28 not out. Tom Minty (3 for 30) and Peter Gough (3 for 32) did most of the damage with the ball.

Over at Grainville, Guernsey's Clubhouse Optimists were chasing 187 for 6 in a reduced 37 overs per side match against Jersey's Romerils, Ryan Driver top-scoring for Romerils with 72. Mark Saralis (32) and Karl Le Fevre (29) also contributed significantly towards the Romerils score. Optimists were in a great position after a firm foundation was laid by Mark Clapham (49) and Tim de Putron (34) but lost late wickets in a flurry to lose by 14 runs. Paul Baker took 3 for 27 in 8 overs for Romerils.

The semi-final line-up for Saturday 26th August is:

Total Cobo (Guernsey) v Old Victorians (Jersey)
Sporting Club Francais (Jersey) v Romerils (Jersey)
