Mavericks win yet another thriller in GCA Cup

David Piesing

Randly Paddle Mavericks continued their remarkable season of dramatic last-over and/or last-wicket victories when batting second, with a one-wicket win at KGV over C&W Rovers in the Carey Olsen GCA Cup preliminary round.

Rovers batted first and were bowled out for just 131, with John Baker (40) and 14-year old Robbie Le Corre (22) rescuing them from a perilous 22 for 4. The early damage was done by opening bowlers Lee Gallienne and Mark Culverwell who quickly ripped out the core of Rovers' top-order batting line-up of Hubbard, Duke, Headington and Scoones.

Mavericks passed their target in the 32nd over, and so had 18 overs but only one wicket in hand.

Mavericks now play Clubhouse Optimists in the second semi-final on 17th September, while in the other semi-final Total Cobo play PKF Wanderers on 10th September.
