Island Under-16's put in good performance against Jersey

A fine stand of 62 by Danny Kniveton and Seb Hopkins was the highlight of the Island Juniors match against Jersey in the Standard Bank Under 16 Festival on Friday.
 
The Channel Islands side batted first and were on the brink of defeat at 128 for 8. However the last two wickets hit out and took the total to 194. Seb Hopkins took 2 for 36, Kane Dooley 2 -41 and Luke Lacey 2 -25.
 
The Manx team were in trouble at 58 for 5 but Danny and Seb were in defiant mood. The Island finished on 140 for 5 with Kniveton making an excellent 54 not out and Hopkins ending on 29 not ou

On Friday the Island Juniors lost to Hampshire in the Standard Bank Under 16 Festival in Jersey.
 
The English county batted first and made 279 for 3. The wickets were taken by Max Stokoe, Andrew Turner and Kane Dooley.
 
The Island replied with 101 – the highlight of which was a superb innings of 43 from Stokoe.
 
The Island Juniors were hit by a tornado in Thursday’s Standard Bank Under 16 Festival in Jersey.
 
Jake Heath, a member of the elite Northamptonshire County Academy, turned in the amazing figures of six wickets for nine runs. A right arm fast bowler of enormous talent and potential, Jake proved too hot for the Island batsmen.
 
He was mainly responsible for the Manx team being dismissed for just 30. But it was not easy for the English batsmen as the Island made them fight all the way.
 
The Northants side reached 31 for 1 to win the game – but it took them fifteen overs to achieve the total. The wicket to fall was taken by Max Stokoe.
 
Sussex and Northants head the Division A table and so now compete in the top half of the knock-out stage starting today. The Island will be drawn in the lower grouping. 

On Monday the Island lost its opening match in the Standard Bank Under 16 Festival in Jersey. They went down to Sussex, but, after turning in a good bowling performance, were left ruing dropped catches.
 
The English county batted first and were having problems at 55 for 3 when a chance from skipper Michael Chapman was missed. At the time he had only scored two, but then went on to make 96 before being run out by Danny Kniveton.
 
Sussex were eventually dismissed for 230 with fine efforts from Seb Hopkins who took 4 for 44 and Max Stokoe (3 -43).
 
The Manx team made a steady start and at 50 for 3 had set a base for the run chase. However the English attack proved too much for the middle-order and the team ended on 83 all out. Max Stokoe made 12, Danny Kniveton 11 and Andrew Turner 10. 
 
The Island lost its second match in the Standard Bank Under 16 Festival in Jersey. They were defeated by Middlesex, but turned in a tighter performance than on Monday.
 
The English county batted first and made 199 for 5. There were two wickets for Seb Hopkins and one each for Max Stokoe and Kane Dooley. The other dismissal was a run out due to a piece of smart fielding.
 
On a damp wicket the Island batsmen found the going difficult. Max Stokoe overcame the conditions to make a splendid 49. The team were dismissed in the final over for 101 to lose by 98 runs.
