Skipper Biggins calls time on captaincy
David Piesing
Andy Biggins, the left-handed batsman from Optimists CC who has skippered Guernsey to five successive victories against Jersey in the annual inter-insular after Guernsey had lost ten on the bounce, has announced his decision to stand down as captain. Biggins, who is 31, said that he felt the time was right to hand over the reins and concentrate on his own game. He hopes to continue to be selected for representative cricket for many years to come.
Biggins' record as captain is exceptional. In 28 matches under his stewardship (excluding the recent ECC defeat against Greece which was declared void after Greece fielded two ineligible players), he has only tasted defeat 5 times, having been rested for the recent ECC defeat against Germany. Those five defeats were against Bermuda (twice), Namibia and MCC (twice), all being exceptionally strong sides.
