St John's "the best" as they pip Town for Premiership title
IOMCA
Premiership Final at Tromode 3rd September 2006
St John's 220 all out ( Nic Hawke 53, Ewald Kilian 38, Grant Atchison 23, Scott Pearce 23. Garreth Roome 3-43, Andy Sewell 2-34, Wicus Wessels 2-38 )
Castletown 199 for 8 ( Mike Baker 43, Christian Steriopulos 38, Richard McGarry 23*. Ewald Kilian 4-35 ).
Batting firs St John's put together a useful if not unattainable 220 with Nic Hawke making 53 and Ewald Killian 38. The Town bowlers shared the wickets with three for Garreth Roome and two apiece for Andy Sewell and Wicus Wessels.
In reply Castletown were soon in trouble at 61 for 4 with Ewald Killian amongst the wickets but a stand of 92 between Christian Steriopulos (38) and Mike Baker (43) dragged Town back into the match, however they fell 21 runs short with 2 wickets left largely due to a great spell of bowling by Nic Hawke who conceded just 19 runs in his 10 overs. Nic deservedly picked up the Man-of-the-Match award for his efforts with both bat and ball.
St John's rightly earn "team of the season" after adding this title to the Tinker and Cain Cups, while Town can look back on a great season too having taken the Standard Bank League and Six-a-Side titles.
