Rob Webber's Island Select XI  turned in an impressive display on Sunday when they won the annual Presidents Day match at Mullen-e-Cloie.

 Batting first a strong Rest Of The Island team were soon in trouble against tight bowling. Scott Pearce took 2 wickets for 16 runs from eight overs and there was also a speedy opening from Chris McConnell.

 Nick Hawke looked set for a good innings, but was bowled on 15 by a snorter from Garreth Roome. However it was the entry into the attack of Gareth Morris and Greg Hawke which caused the major problems.

 Gareth claimed four wickets for ten runs and Greg 3 for 19 as the Rest were dismissed for 101. Andy Sewell top scored with a hard-hit 24 before falling to Morris.

 A sensible batting performance then saw the Island XI reach their target for the loss of three wickets. Opener Jon Norrington shone with an excellent 41. Russell Miller bowling for the first time in over 2 months returned 1 for 23 from eight overs and there were also wickets for John Slevin and Greg Tomlinson.

 This was an encouraging performance by the Island XI who will soon be flying to Spain to play two internationals against the home country.
