Guernsey Youth Development Squad return to South Africa
David Piesing
Guernsey's Youth Development (Under-21) squad, sponsored by Investec Bank, returns to South Africa in the October half-term week for a week-long tour after their successful visit last year. The squad is made up mostly of next year's Under-19 squad, plus one Under-20 and two Under-21 players.
Managed by David Nussbaumer and accompanied by coaches Mike Kinder and Jonny Orme, the party heads off to Cape Town on 19th October will the following fixtures ahead of them:
22nd October v Belville Development XI (50 overs)
24th October v Bergvliet (40 overs)
25th October v Wynberg (40 overs)
26th October v Fish Hoek (40 overs)
27th October v Hermanus (40 overs)
All of the Guernsey players will be in contention for places in the 2007 Under-19 ECC Division Two Championships as well as the proposed new Under-23 ECC Division Two Championships and this tour continues the excellent progress that they made in 2006 as a Development Squad. The majority of the squad are in fact Under-18s in 2007 so will still have a further year at the Under-19 age group in 2008.
The tour promises to be a tough one, as indeed it was last year, but nevertheless an invaluable one as part of their development.
