Jersey Cricket Umpires News Update
Four Jersey cricket umpires have gained selection to the European Cricket Council’s Umpires Panel for 2007.
Husband and wife pairing of Mike and Jane Carpenter are joined by Guarin Clayton and Robin Stockton and will officiate at one or more of this years European tournaments.
Local umpires have continued to gain success in the national examination system of the Association of Umpires & Scorers, ACU&S. In the past year Guarin Clayton and Robin Stockton passed Grade Level 4, the final hurdle towards Full Membership of ACU&S. Maurice Dubras and Desmond O’Neil were successful at Grade Level 5, as was Peter Whitsey at Grade Level 6.
Training Officer, Doug Ferguson, has also become an examiner for all exam levels.
More local umpires are needed, and with the onset of more European competitions Jersey’s up and coming umpires could be involved in officiating at higher levels throughout the continent.
A new umpiring course commences on Wednesday 28th February. 6.00pm at De La Salle College.
Aspiring umpires should contact Doug Ferguson on 483646 to book a place on the course.
