JERSEY WIN IN ITALY BY 8 WICKETS

Nikki Holmes

Jersey have won the first match of their crucial ECC tournament against Italy in Grosseto. The Italians won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 266-9 in their 50 overs. Jersey reached 267-2 after 47.1 overs with opener Peter Gough and captain Matty Hague (not out) both scoring exactly 100 runs with a second wicket partnership of 160 runs.

Jersey must now be 'highly competitive' in one of their next 2 matches to fulfil ICC Playing Criteria in their bid to become Associate Members. Jersey manager Chris Minty said, "We are here to do a job and now we've won, we want to win all three games this weekend."
