Castletown to play Rest of Island in season opener
IOMCA
Champions Castletown will take on the Rest of the Island in the opening game of the season and will be capable of fielding a very strong side as it will include a number of the Senior Island Squad as well as some new signings if the rumours prove to be true. Island squad players Gareth Morris, Garreth Roome,Andy Sewell, Christian Steriopulos and Oliver Steriopulos could all feature as well as rumoured new signings Mark Williams, Jamie Tomlinson and John Short. Add Wicus Wessels to those players and the team looks very strong indeed.
Skipper of the Rest of the Island team Rob Webber will be hoping the remaining squad members are all available though Conor Byrne is out injured. The Rest of the Island should come from the following:
Pete Richards, Jon Norrington, Rob Webber, Chris McConnell, Scott Pearce, Nic Hawke, Graeme Garrett, Ollie Webster, Neil Holmes, Max Stokoe, Danny Kniveton, Andrew Turner.
The Karran League will get under way the following Saturday under it's new format of 45 overs per side but with fielding restrictions amongst other rule changes. Captains are urged to study the new rules prior to the start of the season.
In addition to a more extensive Weekend league the IOM is also involved in three Eiropean Championship events this Summer. The Under-15 squad will got to La Manga in Spain, the Under-19 side to Jersey and the IOM Senior side to Belgium for the ECC Division 3 Championships.
