Squad named for series against Holland A
David Piesing
Island team manager Dave Hearse has named a 17-man squad for the 3-match series against the visiting Holland A side later this month. The Dutch side will be playing under the name of the Flamingo A side in recognition of sponsorship of the team. The two teams will be playing for a trophy put up by local sponsors, the Fortis Guernsey group.
The Guernsey squad is:
Stuart Le Prevost (captain) (Cobo)
Ami Banerjee (Optimists)
Andy Biggins (Optimists)
Stuart Bisson (Rovers)
Tim Duke (Rovers)
Jeremy Frith (Cobo)
Mark Jefferies (Optimists)
Peter Le Hegarat (Cobo)
Justin Meades (Mavericks)
Kris Moherndl (Cobo)
Matt Oliver (Cobo)
Blane Queripel (Cobo)
Steve Queripel (Optimists)
Gary Rich (Cobo)
Aaron Scoones (Rovers)
GH Smit (Mavericks)
Richard Veillard (Wanderers)
Eleven of the squad played in the ECC Second Division European Championships in Glasgow in 2006. The 6 "newcomers" are Tim Duke, Peter Le Hegarat, Justin Meades, Blane Queripel, Aaron Scoones and GH Smit. Lee Savident (work commitments) and Jamie Nussbaumer (university) are unavailable for this series while the 14th member of the Glasgow squad, Pierre Moody, has made himself unavailable for representative cricket this year.
Of the 6 newcomers, Duke, Le Hegarat, Queripel and Scoones are already eligible to represent Guernsey in the 2008 ECC tournament, while it is hoped that both Smit and Meades will satisfy the eligibility criteria in time for that tournament. Players who will definitely not meet the 2008 ECC tournament eligibility criteria have not been considered for this series.
Keith Greenfield, the Sussex CCC Academy Director will be accompanied by the county's fitness coach, Ben Haining, in coaching the Guernsey squad during the series under the partnership agreement between the island and the county, while the visiting side will be accompanied by new national coach, PJ Bakker and by national development coach, Roland Lefebvre.
