Nervous Cobo edge home
David Piesing
On Saturday Total Cobo nearly threw away the points against PKF Wanderers but it was left to club and island skipper Stuart Le Prevost to see his side home.
In a match reduced to 27 overs per side due to pre-match rain, Wanderers lost a vital toss and were duly inserted. They never got going against some very tight bowling and after throwing away several soft wickets they limped to 76 all out in 24.2 overs, with Gary Rich taking 3 for 12. It was a total that Cobo should have had no problems with but Pierre Moody (3 for 20) struck with three early wickets and at 44 for 4 Cobo were wobbling. Although they lost 2 further wickets skipper Le Prevost got them over the line with a solid 29 not out. One more win should be enough to secure the Championship title for Cobo - a title that they have suprisingly not won for nearly a decade.
Sunday's clash between Air Search Rovers and Marlborough Trust Optimists was abandoned at the halfway stage due to heavy rain, just after Rovers had been bowled out for 128 in 42.1 overs, Mark Jefferies taking 3 for 16. It was a game that both sides needed to win and a No-Result suited nobody although Rovers will certainly be the more relieved side based on the first innings score.
