Another win for Cobo

David Piesing

Total Cobo now need just 24 points from their remaining two fixtures (out of 40 points available in each game) to clinch the Carey Olsen Championship and so a win over Marlborough Trust Optimists next Saturday will clinch the title.

On Saturday Cobo bowled out Elizabeth College for 104 at KGV with Gary Rich continuing his recent fine form by taking 3 for 17 in his allotted 9 overs. Cobo again exposed their vulnerability when chasing low scores and eventually lost 7 wickets before clinching victory.

Meanwhile at Port Soif, Air Search Rovers took a huge stride towards securing qualification for the CI Club Championship with a thumping 9-wicket victory over fellow strugglers Marlborough Trust Optimists. Rovers won a vital toss and elected to bowl on a wicket which did a fair bit in the first innings. A depleted Optimists were bowled out for 141 with opener Mark Clapham top-scoring with 40. As the wicket settled down Rovers found runs much easier to find and they raced home by 9 wickets within 20 overs, led yet again by Ryan Bishop with a further unbeaten half-century who was very well-supported by Jody Bisson.

Sunday's big game between PKF Wanderers and Mavericks was washed out due to torrential morning rain.

In Saturday's Division 2 game, PKF Wanderers 2nd team hammered Elizabeth College 2nd XI by 120 runs at Memorial Field. Wanderers made a daunting 234 for 1 in 40 overs thanks to a fine maiden century by Mark Stenner (123) who put on 180 with fellow opener Dominic Wheatley (58 not out) for the first wicket. In reply the College were bowled out for 114.

Sunday's game between Air Search Rovers 2nd XI and Marlborough Trust Optimists 2nd XI also fell foul of the heavy rain.
