David Piesing

Four new caps will be handed out by Island Manager Dave Hearse before next weekend's home inter-insular against the Jersey Cricket Board at the KGV. The following side has been announced:-

Matt Oliver (Cobo)
Ryan Bishop (Rovers) (wk)
Ami Banerjee (Optimists)
Jeremy Frith (Cobo)
Stuart Le Prevost (Cobo) (captain)
GH Smit (Mavericks)
Andy Biggins (Optimists)
Gary Rich (Cobo)
Kris Moherndl (Cobo)
Blane Queripel (Cobo)
Peter Le Hegarat (Cobo)

The four inter-insular debutants are Bishop, Moherndl, Queripel and Le Hegarat

Ryan Bishop (20) is a young South African wicketkeeper/batsman who has played regional Under-19 cricket in his home country before moving to Guernsey earlier this year. He has scored close to 1,000 runs in Guernsey cricket already this season.

Kris Moherndl (18) is a seam bowling all-rounder and an outstanding fielder who was selected as 12th man for Europe v MCC at Lord's earlier this year after attending the ECC Academy at La Manga and Loughborough. He has already represented Guernsey in the ECC Second Division Championships in 2006 and also has first-team appearances against the Bermuda Cricket Board, the French Cricket Federation, the Flamingo Dutch "A" side and the Jersey Cricket Board under his belt without having yet managed to make the inter-insular team. He had a successful ICC Under-19 Second Division tournament in Jersey last month.

Blane Queripel (21) is a quick opening bowler who has impressed this year after improving his accuracy. He is also a useful lower-order batsman. As per Moherndl, Queripel has made appearances against the Bermuda Cricket Board, the French Cricket Federation, the Flamingo Dutch "A" side and the Jersey Cricket Board but he has not appeared in ECC/ICC cricket.

Peter Le Hegarat (18) is also a fast bowler and lower middle-order batsman who has bowled very well in recent months. He took 5 for 11 in an outstanding spell against the French Cricket Federation in the Jersey triangular tournament last month and had an excellent all-round tournament in the ICC Under-19s in Jersey. Peter played one game for Hampshire 2nd XI in 2006 and has played against the Bermuda Cricket Board, the Flamingo Duch "A" side and the French Cricket Federation. He attended Gary Palmer's academy for 2 years from the age of 16 and is starting to realise his potential.

Moherndl, Queripel and Le Hegarat will all be representing Guernsey in the forthcoming European Under-23 2nd Division Championships starting on 13th August.

Of the Guernsey team, all are currently eligible to play ICC cricket except for Smit (who is expected to qualify as a 4-year resident in 2008) and Bishop.

The home side will be hoping to extend their 5-year winning run in front of a home crowd which could well top the estimated 1,100 who watched the 2003 fixture.
