Ravenscroft scores ton for Hampshire in ECB U17 Final
David Piesing
Guernsey's 15-year old batting star, Tim Ravenscroft, originally missed out on playing for Guernsey in the ICC European Under-15 Second Division Championships in La Manga, Spain due to his commitments with Hampshire Under-16s in the Standard Bank Under-16 County Festival in Jersey. However, he ended up being pulled out of that tournament yesterday to play for Hampshire Under-17s in the two-day ECB Under-17 County Championship Final against Durham at Hove and played a starring role in a massive 334-run victory for Hampshire.
Winning the toss and batting first, Hampshire made 470 for 8 in their allotted 100 overs with Ravenscroft making exactly 100 before being dismissed. Team-mate Hamza Riazuddin then hit 146 to put the game well out of Durham's reach by the end of the first day. On the second day Durham were bowled out for just 136.
Having disappointingly been overlooked by the England Under-15 national selectors after the Bunbury Festival in July, Ravenscroft has bounced back in most impressive style. He made his official international debut for Guernsey in the recent ICC European Under-23B Championships and top-scored with an unbeaten 58 versus Gibraltar. He also appeared for the Guernsey Cricket Board senior side against the Flamingo Dutch A side in Guernsey in May, making 36 and taking 2 for 20 with his off-breaks.
