German Club Championship Final

Brian Fell, German Cricket Board

The final of the German Club Competition is this weekend
Everything is now set for the final of the German Club Championship to be held in Mönchengladbach on Sunday 16 September.  Contesting the final will be DSSC Berlin, who have won the trophy on  three previous occasions and Bonn CC, who will be playing in their first DCB final. Officiating will be Paul Baldwin and father Pete, two highly experienced international umpires.  Chief scorer will be Wraye Wenigmann.

In reaching the final, Bonn CC, winners of the North Rhine -Westphalia Cricket Union, regional DCB league, beat Olympia Frankfurt, winners of the Hessen league in the semi-final by 103 runs (Bonn CC 274 for 7 off their 50 overs, Olympia Frankfurt 171 all out in 40 overs).  The other semi-final saw DSSC Berlin, winners of the Berlin league, defeat the Göttingen University team, winners of the North German Cricket Association regional league, by 3 wickets (Göttingen University 130 all out, DSSC Berlin 131 for 7).

While DSSC, with a number of current and ex-German internationals in the team, will probably start as favourites, Bonn CC have had a very successful 2007 season, so that the final has all the ingredients for a close-run affair.
