Gray-Nicolls Bats with Carbon Handles

ICC has been advised of an agreement reached between MCC and Gray-Nicolls in relation to a bat

manufactured by Gray-Nicolls that has a carbon fibre handle (the Bat).

The Bat is marketed under the name ‘FUSION’. Please note that it may appear in the professional game withdifferent stickers.

MCC has ruled that carbon fibre handles do not comply with the Laws of Cricket and that the Bats are illegal.

MCC and Gray Nicolls have agreed that:

The Bats will not be used in Test or One Day Internationals or International Twenty 20 Cricket with

immediate effect.

The Bats may be used in English professional cricket until 30 September 2008.

After 30 September 2008, the Bats cannot be used in any First Class, List “A” or professional cricketworldwide, including Twenty20 Cricket.

Gray-Nicolls will not sell any of these Bats to retailers in the UK after 30 April 2008.

Gray-Nicolls will not sell any of the Bats to retailers outside the UK after 31 August 2008. Retailers

may continue to sell any remaining Bats which they have in stock after 30 September 2008, up to 30

April 2009.

After 30 April 2009 the Bats may not be sold anywhere in the world.

The Bats may be used in all amateur cricket until the end of their natural lives. However, re-handling

of these bats with a replacement carbon fibre handle will not be allowed after 30 September 2008.

In light of the above, please be informed that the ICC match officials will be instructed to enforce this ruling asfollows:

The Bat will be banned with immediate effect in the following matches:

a) Men’s Test, ODI and Twenty20 Internationals (note that as far as we have been able to ascertain, nointernational players are using the Bat in any international series currently being played)

b) Women’s Test, ODI and Twenty 20 Internationals

The Bat will be banned with effect from the 30th September 2008 in the following matches:

a) Intercontinental Cup matches

b) CWC Qualifier

c) World Cricket League Division 1

d) WT20 Qualifier

e) U/19 CWC Qualifier

f) U/19 CWC

Use of the Bat for its natural lifespan will be permitted in the following matches:

a) All other Associate / Affiliate international matches

b) All other women’s international matches

In regards to domestic cricket played within each Member country, we acknowledge that this is a matter for each Member Board to determine but we suggest the following uniform approach in line with the agreement reached between MCC and Gray Nicolls:

Professional Cricket – Use of Bat prohibited after 30 September 2008

a) First class cricket

a) List A matches

b) Matches between national academy teams

c) Matches between national ‘A” teams

Amateur / Recreational Cricket – Use for natural life-span of Bat permitted

a) All other men’s matches

b) All domestic women’s matches

c) All age group cricket

MCC has requested Gray-Nicolls to ensure that all their contracted players are advised of the above rulings.
