TJF
Local cricketer off to the ICC European Academy in India.
Kieron Ferrary leaves Gibraltar on Sunday to take part in the ICC European Academy in Mumbai, India. Selection for this Academy is subject to intense competition as only fourteen of Europe’s finest cricketers are selected from many applications, and it is therefore a great credit to both Kieron and Gibraltar cricket to have been chosen
This will be the first time that the Academy takes place outside Europe as it relocates to the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai. The previous five academies have been held in Europe-based venues.
The Academy will be organised through the Mumbai-base Global Cricket School which has an extremely talented team of coaches in place, the majority of whom have worked with Indian national teams at junior and senior level In addition to this, the European players will be accompanied by a highly qualified ICC Europe coaching team led by the ICC Regional Development Officer, Philip Hudson, of course well known in Gibraltar circles as a former development Officer on the Rock. The team includes ECB’s Head of Elite Coach Development Gordon Lord, former Ireland coach Adrian Birrell and Stuart Barnes, Assistant Coach with Gloucestershire CCC.
The programme itself will consist of five days of practice and three matches against a variety of opposition including and u-19 state side. The matches will take the form of one two-day and two one-day matches.
The fourteen participants, all aged between 18 and 22, come from six of Europe’s 27 ICC Member countries – Gibraltar, Guernsey, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands and Scotland.
