"Chop" returns to Australia after 6 years at St John's

Colin Jones

Scott Pearce aka "Chop" has recently returned to his native Australia along with his wife Helen and their children. Scott was an excellent cricketer and extremely poular with his fellow players. A right arm medium pace bowler of great consistency he was also a talented batsman with a good cricketing brain.

Scott won a number of trophies with St John's and also picked up annual awards for best bowler in 2004 and 2006 and best fielder in 2003. In 2004 he won the Manx Radio Trophy for Man of the Match in the Tinker Cup Final.

He leaves the Isle of Man as the current leading wicket-taker in International cricket for the Island after great performances in La Manga against Spain in 2006 where he destroyed Spain's top order in the Second One-Day International and again in Antwerp in the 2007 ECC European Division 3 Championships where he took 4-17 in the defeat of Belgium and 4-35 against Malta in the third place play-off. Against Spain in the semi-final he came to the wicket with the Isle of Man in desperate trouble at 121-8 and batted superbly to take the scores level at 178-9 with 2 overs to go only for a desperate run out of his partner to rob him of victory as the tied game cost the Isle of Man a place in the final on wickets lost under competition rules.

From a personal point of view I will miss talking to "Chop" for hours about cricket as well as his presence on the field. I'm sure everyone in Manx cricket wishes him and his family all the best for the future.
