Two Gibraltar youngsters off the Europe’s Centre of Excellence.
Two of Gibraltar’s young cricketers, Karan Sadhwani and Rahul Daswani, accompanied by Development Manager, Richard Askew, left for La Manga, Spain on Sunday to take part in Europe’s tenth Centre of Excellence at the La Manga Club, Spain. This is the third consecutive year that the five-day camp will be held at this resort located in Murcia.
The group of 27 participants, all aged between 13 and 17, have been selected from fourteen European countries. The Centre of Excellence has been organised by ICC European Development Office, Richard Bedbrook, who has been quoted as saying that the idea behind it is “to identify and select a crop of the most talented young cricketers in Europe within these age groups and provide them with an opportunity to develop their talents through excellent coaching and support services in order for them to achieve their potential.”
The ICC Europe coaching team will consist of five coaches who will lead sessions on batting, bowling, fielding and wicket keeping, with the focus on physical conditioning, tactics and leadership. In addition there will be fourteen leaders, coaches or development officers from the participating country boards who will offer additional support and will also take part in a separate coach education programme tailored to their needs within their own countries.
The ICC European Centre of Excellence has for the past ten years been an integral part of the ICC European Development Programme and the results are starting to show with several of the graduates now playing for their national sides.
