Ala hits second highest league score
Ala Abdul of MCCB has hit what is believed to be Belgium's second highest league score and the third highest in all BCF competitions - 186 against Optimists 2 in Luxembourg on Saturday May 30.
The highest was 227 scored by Zoheeb Hussain of Ostend Exiles when Exiles played a depleted, eight-man, Antwerp side in a league match in June 2005.
In all Belgian competitions, the second highest was 204 not out, hit by Amjad Muhammed of Greens in a 40-over BCF Cup match back in 2001.
After his 4th Division innings of 186, Ala was more than modest in claiming he had been dropped four times and had also given at least three other chances.
The next day, Sunday May 31, Shehzad Jilani notched up 155 for PCCB in a Third Division match against Gent CC, following up on his superb 98 for Belgium against Germany in Bonn the week before.
The 186 and the 155 came hard on the heels of the 144 not out scored by Colin Walker of Arcadians against 12 Stars in a Second Division match on May 17.
The Belgian leagues began in 1991. A second division was added in 1995, a third in 2000 and the fourth in 2007. The BCF Cup was a 40-over knock-out competition which ceased seven years ago due to pressure on club schedules.
