Swiss Junior Cricket Elite Player Development Activity
Ivo Favotto
Over the recent long weekend (30th May - 1st June), the Switzerland Cricket Association’s Youth Development Officer Patrick Henderson organized a 3-day elite player coaching course for 19 players from all six of the junior clubs in Switzerland. Each of the players had recently represented Switzerland at U11, U13 and U15 level.
To run the course, Patrick worked hard to secure the services of Mr John Cook, an ECB Level III Coach and UKCC3 Tutor from the Hampshire County in England to visit Zurich. “Cookie”, as he affectionately became known to all the players, is a professional cricket coach and is currently the coach of the Hampshire County Women’s Team.
Players included in the 3 day intensive course included (junior club in brackets):

Cookie was ably assisted by qualified Swiss junior team coaches including Patrick Henderson, Ivo Favotto, Simon Ascroft and Ray Boucher.
The training took places at 3 separate venues include the Winterthur Cricket Ground, the training hall at Kantonsschule Hottingen and the match hall at the Zurich International School in Adliswil. Our thanks to the venue providers for their support of Swiss junior cricket.
Cookie organised a series of activities including bowling, batting and fielding drills and did video analysis of each player’s batting and bowling which provided some very useful insights into how players could improve.
The players relished the chance to spend a full 3 days honing their cricket skills and absorbed key lessons that Cookie provided about being successful cricketers – most importantly having a passion for the game, plenty of practice and playing as often as possible.
