Island Under 15 squad announced
IOMCA
The Island Under 15 squad to compete in the European Championships in Italy during August is:-
Matthew Ansell, Adam Killey, Sam Kebble, Rowan Bird, Ryan Burns, Adam McAuley, Nick Moffitt, Andrew Vels (all Cronkbourne), David Haywood, Seb Aycock, Richard Jackson (Castletown), Sean Kelly (Ramsey) and Thomas Whiteway (Crosby). The manager is David Kenworthy and the coach Gareth Dawson.
The competition being held in Bologna, Italy runs from the 16-21 August 2009. The Isle of Man faces some stiff competition from fellow participants Belgium, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Israel and Italy.
However CDO & squad coach Gareth Dawson should draw some encouragement from previous performances by the Island in this competition. The last time it was held in Italy in 2005 the Island actually won the competition at their first attempt. Then again two years ago in La Manga, Spain the feat would have been repeated were it not for the participation of two exceptionally strong teams from Jersey and Guernsey who pushed the Manx into a third place spot. The Channel Islands have now been promoted to Division 1 on the strength of this achievement which should clear the way for the Manx youngsters to have a real tilt at emulating the success of their predecessors. It will take a great deal of hard work, skill and to some extent, luck, to achieve this but coach Dawson is confident that they will enjoy a good tournament and thrive on the cricketing experience it will provide.
