A JERSEY cricket team achieved an international and national world record on Saturday after they played four games in four different Channel Islands in one day.

The Walkovers Cricket Club played games against teams in Alderney, Guernsey, Sark and Jersey and accomplished the International Cricket Council world record and English Cricket Board national record.

Unfortunately they did not make it into the Guinness Book of Records due to technicalities – such as not having an official umpire. But this did not dampen the spirits of the team, who were at one point cheered on by singer Charlotte Church and her boyfriend and international rugby player Gavin Henson, in Sark.

The point of the challenge was to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust because one of the players, Kevin English, suffers from the debilitating illness.

Although the final figure raised will not be known until all sponsorship is collected, Walkovers are predicting a total very close to their £20,000 target.
