Over the weekend of the 7-8 February ICC European Development Officer Philip Hudson travelled to Poland to run an ECC Introductory Coaching Course.  After arriving in Berlin and travelling by train to Gorzów Wielkopolski, the home of Polonia CC, Philip was met by Maciej Stakowiak, the vice-captain of the club and his host for the weekend.

Sixteen people from all over the west of Poland turned up to begin the first day’s activities of the Introductory Course.  Included in the group of sixteen were three women who had only taken part in cricketing activities on a couple of occasions previously.  Activities over the two days were taken very seriously and much credit must be given to all the participants who worked very hard.  The course was organised with the aim of preparing the Polonia team for their first ever matches against a German touring side.  The course also managed to introduce both teachers and players to basic coaching methods so that cricket can be taught to both adults and children in the future.

Many thanks must go to Simon Haines, the course organiser, who continues to work extremely hard in his aim to introduce cricket to the Polish people.  Also thanks to Maciej and all of his family for the wonderful hospitality Philip was shown throughout his stay in Poland.
