At the invitation of the Hellenic Cricket Federation, Dennis Stones travelled to Corfu to lead an EDP Introductory Umpiring Course on the weekend of 12-15 March.

Amongst the eleven participants there were members of the Hellenic national squad, which prompted Dennis to muse whether any current England cricketer has ever attended an umpiring course.  There was much lively discussion about the interpretation of the Laws, the gist of which Dennis could only guess at.  Fortunately, Georgia Sagiadinou and Costas Koronakis were on hand to help out with translation, explanation and restoration of order!

On the Sunday afternoon, the visual and oral examinations were held, the results of which indicated that much had been learned and revised during the previous 13 hours or so.

During the weekend Dennis took the opportunity to look in on some junior indoor cricket.  He was very impressed by the number of teams, the quality of the players, most of whom were U15s, and the venue.

He also appreciated the hospitality of Georgia and Costas, who made sure that his first visit to Corfu was both comfortable and pleasant.
