Women's Cricket in Ireland
21 May 2002

Chris Torrisi has been appointed Coach to the National Senior Women's Cricket Team on contract for the summer months. 26-year-old Chris, who is employed by Queensland Cricket as their head and Club Coach at Queensland University, comes highly recommended as a coach throughout Leinster circles. He is currently playing for Dublin University and coaching Merrion CC's 1st XI, where he played for the last two seasons. Meanwhile, John Wills returns to the Women's scene as a Senior Selector, representing South Leinster. John had been coach to the National Senior Women's Cricket Team for some years before retiring due to ill health. He joins Evelyn Harmon (North Leinster), Gavin Craig (North West) and Donna Armstrong (NCU), to make up the Senior Selection Panel for the coming season.

THE ICU Women's XI's first two league matches were rain affected. The first, against Clontarf 4th XI, resulted in a refix after one innings was completed. The ICU XI batted and scored 164 for 8 in this innings, with a very solid batting performance by openers Clare O'Leary and Karen Young. The second match, against YMCA 4th XI, resulted in a rain affected draw. YMCA amassed a total of 204-6 off their 45 overs, to which the ICU team replied with 92-7 off 32 overs before abandoning the match due to rain.
