Israel domestic season comes to an end

The ICA Cup final, played last weekend between Ashdod A and Lions Lod, brought down the curtain on the 2003 domestic season. The success story of the season were Lions Lod, who won the Cup in emphatic fashion, and in so doing completed the domestic double, having secured the Premier League title last month.

For the first time, the local league was divided into three divisions, in an effort to increase competitiveness. As mentioned, Lions Lod finished Premier League champions, finishing the season undefeated. The team is centred around the Massil brothers, Isaac and David, although their fellow Israel internationals Yefet Nagavkar and Mahendra Jaiswar both enjoyed outstanding seasons with the bat, scoring the bulk of their teams' runs.

Division 1 was won by Young Ashdod, who edged out city rivals Neve Yonatan on run rate after both teams finished level on points.

Division 2 was a far less tense affair, with Lod CC proving far too good for all the other teams in the division. The Negev Academy, a team consisting of junior players from the three Negev cricket centres, fared well in their maiden season playing in the adult league, finishing third.

U15 spin bowlers, leggie Ronen Waskar and left armer Solomon Varsulkar shared 46 wickets between them, finishing first and second respectively on the bowling averages table.
