Women's World Champions take on the Europeans
ECC - 1 July 2002

Following three impressive victories over the Dutch women's squad at the end of June, World Champions New Zealand are heading for Ireland to take on the European Champions.

The Irish squad has changed considerably since the European Championships last year, with 5 members of the winning Squad omitted. Nikki Squire, Saibh Young and Gr·inne Leahy have retired from International Cricket, whilst Lara Molins, Cecelia Joyce and Aoife Budd have also been left out of the squad on this occasion.

The squad features 3 uncapped players - Tracy Fleming (The Hills), Marianne Herbert (Malahide) and Laura Morgan (Malahide) - who all played in recent U21/Development games.

Rejoining the squad are experienced players Karen Young and Davina Pratt, who missed out on the European Championship last year due to injury, and Catherine O'Neill, who was unavailable for selection last season.

Ann Lenihan (Downpatrick) takes over captaincy of the team from Nikki Squire who retired from International Cricket earlier this year.
